Cole named in Arsenal's Euro squad

Ashley Cole has been named in Arsenal's Champions League squad for the coming season - but that will not stand in the way of the England full-back moving to Chelsea.

Despite his inclusion in the squad submitted to UEFA, Cole will still be eligible to play for Chelsea in European competition if he does not appear in Arsenal's Champions League qualifiers against Dinamo Zagreb.

The Gunners are due to fly out to Croatia this afternoon ahead of their first leg tomorrow, and Cole is not expected to travel.

Cole, 25, looks increasingly likely to move to Chelsea in a £25million move, especially since extracts in his forthcoming autobiography were published criticising the way the club dealt with the tapping-up scandal which enveloped both Arsenal and Chelsea last year.

Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein has already admitted initial talks between the two London clubs have taken place.

Arsene Wenger is expected to play Mathieu Flamini at left-back against Zagreb. The Frenchman appeared in that position on numerous occasions last season when Cole and Gael Clichy were injured.

Wenger has already confirmed that Thierry Henry will not play while goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is suspended.

Summer signing Tomas Rosicky, the Czech Republic midfielder, could make his competitive debut against the Croats.
