Henry and Van Persie doubtful for Old Trafford clash

By Richard Clarke

Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie are doubtful for Arsenal’s vital Premiership clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Dutchman hurt his hip in the 2-1 win at Hamburg on Wednesday while his French colleague missed the game in Germany after picking up a foot injury in training the day before.

On the plus side, Kolo Toure should be fit after a hip injury forced him off in the first half at the AOL Arena. The injured quartet of Philippe Senderos (shoulder), Gael Clichy (foot), Lauren (knee) and Abou Diaby (ankle) all remain four to six weeks away from fitness.

“Kolo Toure will have no problem to play on Sunday,” Arsène Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon. “Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie are a bigger problem. We have to wait a little bit but there is a doubt about both of them.

“Robin has a hip problem. His [foot] got stuck in the pitch when he wanted to keep the ball on. There is a major doubt about him.”

Senderos, Clichy, Lauren and Diaby have not featured all season. However it seems the long wait is nearing an end.

“You need to allow four to six weeks for all of them” said Wenger. “[The first one back] will be between Clichy and Senderos. Maybe Senderos will be earliest with Clichy just behind.”
