Reyes 'eager to seal Madrid move'

Arsenal winger Jose Antonio Reyes hopes to tie up a move to Real Madrid "as soon as possible".

Talks between the two clubs about the 22-year-old are believed to be ongoing.

"Me and my family are somewhat tense at the moment and want to make sure things don't collapse," Reyes told Spanish newspaper AS.

"I want things to be sorted out as soon as possible and I will have my mobile turned on all day on Wednesday in case there are any important calls."

The Spain international added that he was "optimistic things will work out well in the end".

Reyes was an unused substitute for Arsenal's 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League qualifying round on Tuesday, increasing speculation that he will leave the club.

Had he played in the match, Reyes would have been ineligible to play in European competition for any other club this season.

"I don't know if Wenger thought I was ready, but maybe he thought I was too distracted to play," Reyes told AS.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he left Reyes out of his team because the winger was "unsettled" and not because of his prospective move to Real.

"I feel Reyes, with all the noises made about his transfer with Real Madrid, has been unsettled," Wenger said.

"I don't think he had the right concentration. The fact he will be cup-tied did not come into my mind."

Asked whether he thought Reyes would still be with Arsenal when the transfer window closes, Wenger insisted: "I am confident, yes.

"I do not send messages out. I send a good team out with chance to win. You can take all the conclusions you want.

"You cannot see behind every decision I make (whether it is) to transfer players."

Earlier on Tuesday, Reyes' agent Rodriguez de Moya told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: "If he plays it will complicate the move.

"Real Madrid do not want to invest a large sum in a player who cannot play in the Champions League."

Reports in Spain suggest there was contact between Real Madrid and Arsenal about the player on Monday.

De Moya added: "It appears that the clubs have begun talking and we are waiting to see if they reach an agreement.

"It's an open secret that Jose Antonio wants to play for Real Madrid.

"He is very happy at Arsenal because they have treated him very well but he misses home and has always made that clear."
